Letter from Dr. Armstrong | Summer Fall 2026

Dear LTFU Study Participants, 

Your heart works hard every day. If you had childhood cancer, it is important to know whether your treatment could affect your heart later in life. 

In this issue of LTFU Update, we share information about heart screening for childhood cancer survivors. Research from the Long-Term Follow-Up Study has helped us better understand who benefits most from regular heart screening. Knowing your risk can help you and your health care provider decide when these screenings are needed. 

You will also read about ECHOS2, a new study testing whether an online program can help more survivors get recommended heart screenings. We hope this research will make it easier for survivors to get the care they need and stay healthy. 

Finally, you will meet Bryn Anteau, a childhood cancer survivor whose routine echocardiogram found a heart problem before symptoms appeared. She was able to start treatment right away. Her story is a powerful reminder that regular follow-up care can make a real difference. 

Whether you are due for heart screening or want to learn more about your health, I encourage you to read this issue and talk with your health care provider about your risk. Together, we can help you stay healthy for years to come.
