The working structure of the CCSS is intended to maintain the cohort as a continuing resource and to facilitate its use by encouraging the involvement of investigators associated with the contributing centers. Scientific direction is provided to the project by eight working groups, which are open to all investigators from the participating centers. A steering committee, composed of the principal investigator, directors of the support facilities. NCI collaborators and the chairs of the working groups, provides overall leadership to the study. Three administrative committees have been established: an analysis and publications committee, an ancillary studies review committee, and an education committee, which oversee activities including the publication of the study newsletter, directed towards participant education. Additionally, an external advisory committee provides input into the project.
